The Palace Scarred (see what I did there?!)
First off, THANK YOU to Craig for making this possible! In fairness, Palace Station has been around for a long time, and while they're now starting renovations, they have a ways to go. The rooms are a bit dated, though the bed was actually more comfortable than most hotels I've visited, the hot water came on almost instantly (and with great pressure), and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The elevator doors seem to take forever to close, and do move slowly, but they work fine. The best resource was my Casino Host, Kathy! She is one of the nicest and most friendly hosts I've dealt with, and she went out of her way to make my stay better! The casino is spread out (I kept discovering new corridors!) but has lots and lots of slots (that might be a good ad line!). I rarely play bingo (this was only my second time), but the large-size "tablets" you can get are well-designed, and the bingo staff was very helpful. Plus, I won $75 on a $52 card, so no complaints! The hotel would benefit from having more front desk staff...the check-in lines were longer than expected (and the VIP check-in isn't really laid out well). The bell staff and valet service is great (in fact, the valet refused to take my offered tip, telling me to save it for when I checked out - try THAT at a Caesars' hotel). The only real drawback is that Palace Station in on "the wrong side of the highway" - making getting to the Strip an effort (their shuttle runs only to Fashion Square, running about every 90 minutes nine times a day. I chose to take my own car instead. All in all, I had a really good time...just don't expect too much from the rooms (for now at least), and enjoy the mostly-locals atmosphere. Again, the people there are the best, especially my host Kathy!
