I am incredibly disappointed with our recent stay at the Grand Z, formerly The Reserve. The rooms, Z Grill eatery (temporarily housed in the Bistro 321 space during renovation), and casino area seem to have been significantly downgraded with the change in ownership. All microwaves have been removed from the rooms (the space in the TV cabinet and power source remains). There is still a small frig. So, you have a way of keeping things cold, but no way of warming them up. The shampoo/conditioner/body wash dispensers on the shower wall spit minimal amounts of the solution - much time/energy is devoted to extracting the solutions required to bathe. The air coming from the hairdryer is so minimal, that it’s not worth the electricity it uses - serves no purpose. The experience at Z Grill was so awful that numerous orders (ours and others) had to be comped - the service was the worst I’ve had, orders were wrong, and the food quality was substandard at best. They may have removed microwaves from the rooms to force Folks to eat down in the casino, but the amount of time spent waiting to be served (we were there for 2 hours for Grilled Cheese and a French Dip) is keeping Folks out of the casino and off the machines - an unintended outcome - bad for business. We spent very little money at the Grand Z outside the cost of the room (gambled and ate at the Ameristar), and would have gotten our money back on the room if policy had allowed. The Reserve was so classy, and had great amentites and energy. But now, operating as the Grand Z, has been reduced to be dismal and dingy - a disappointment. I recommend staying at the Ameristar if a great experience is what you’re after, as the Grand Z fell short of expectations. Eliminate disappointment and stay, eat, and gamble somewhere that emphasizes a quality experience.
