The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will take public comment today on a plan to use casino’s player card to track winnings which they could then use to tax you on. Currently casinos use player loyalty programs or “Comp Cards” are already used to track how much you play and the casino and offer you valuable comps in return for your play, even UrComped uses them to get you the comps you deserve at any casino.
The IRS wants to change casino’s reporting obligations for “electronically tracked slot machine play”; in other words all gambling that happens when a players card is used.
The American Gaming Association is absolutely against this new plan and is lobbying to stop the proposal on the floor. The fear is by allowing Uncle Sam to see every dime spent in a slot machine means they will want more of the pie at the end of the year. And this will make players want to skip using the players card next time they go to the casino. This would be a nightmare for players who are used to getting comped rooms and meals as now the casino marketing department won’t know when you’re playing.
