Do Cruise Casinos Serve Free Drinks - How it Works
If you're planning to gamble on your upcoming cruise, you're probably wondering about one of the most exciting perks: free drinks while you play! Many cruise lines can offer complimentary beverages in their casinos, but the rules and processes vary. Here’s a breakdown of how free drinks work across some of the major cruise lines we’re partnered with so you can maximize your experience!
Royal Caribbean
Royal Caribbean offers free drinks in the casino for first-time URComped bookings that are comped. A “Prime” sticker is added to your player’s card, which also doubles as your room key, and this indicates your entitlement to complimentary drinks while playing in the casino. Usually, the sticker is already applied when you check into your cabin, but if it’s missing, you can see the casino host onboard to have it added. For first-time Royal cruisers, Prime status is automatically applied to your booking which grants access to the comped drinks. On subsequent sailings, you must earn 2,500 points during the cruise to qualify for this perk again.
MSC Cruises
If your cabin has been comped, then you will typically get free drinks while playing on MSC. MSC follows a similar process to Royal Caribbean with its casino sticker system. The sticker is applied to your player’s card, providing access to free drinks in the casino while you’re actively playing. Most guests will find this sticker already on their card upon arrival at their cabin, and if not, stop by the cage and the casino host will be happy to assist. To ensure your drinks are comped, remember to always bring your player’s card to the casino when you play!
Celebrity Cruises
Celebrity makes free drinks simple and does not require stickers or any extra steps. Complimentary drinks are available to all active casino players — so as long as you’re playing at the slots or tables, you can enjoy your favorite beverages without any added hassle. Servers will come around and take your drink order.
Virgin Voyages
Virgin Voyages offers a unique approach to comped drinks. On your first trip, drinks in the casino are complimentary while you play, and there’s no need for a sticker or charm (the whale tail charm system has been phased out). Instead, drinks are charged to your account during the cruise and then comped off your folio afterward.
Norwegian Cruise Line
Norwegian Cruise Line bookings through URComped automatically include casino drinks as part of its broader ‘Free at Sea’ perks. Every casino reservation covers port fees and taxes, gratuities for specialty dining (open bar and Wi-Fi), admin fees, standard service charges, and travel protection/insurance. However, you can choose to remove these Free at Sea perks when it’s time to pay if you prefer to opt out. If the perks are removed, free casino drinks are still available, depending on the player’s Casinos At Sea Tier Level. Pearl and above tiers unlock complimentary house drinks which require at least 5,000 points or $25,000 coin-in.
