Have dined at Tamarind a number of times, its always great food and service. Although, tonight my steak was very over cooked and almost ruined my dining experience. Considering it was a $85 steak, I kind of expected it to be cooked perfectly, I only didn't send it back as I was very hungry as there was quite a long wait on our main meals.
This place takes dining in Cairns to a whole new level. The best experience I have had in Cairns in the 10 years Ive lived here. Not a place to take the kids as this is fine dining and that doesn't come cheap.
This place is always excellent for fine dining and taking it easy. Ask staff for recommendations and Don't rush the them. You'll ruin your experience. This is fine dining. Expect to pay high prices. Sit back and take in the ambience. This restaurant is at its best when you let it surprise you. Don't research the menu before going. Don't research too many reviews and create false expectations. Don't over hype it for yourself. Pick a special occasion, give yourself heaps of time, and go.
The food was good, but not worth the money spent. Everything was plated in a very pretty manner. Dishes were on the small size, but this works if you enjoy having a three course meal. Some areas are cozy and intimate, but unless you get a booth you'll be crammed, with not much room between tables. I didn't have a horrible time, but I wouldn't go back.
Lucky that we got a table without booking, on our day of arrival. Great food, with price to match (AUD 50-60 pp for food). Service can be more attentive.
