Maybe the drinks are good, but we stopped in for dessert and cocktails at 10pm, and after seating us the waitress said dessert could only be had at the bar so if we weren't doing full dinner we had to leave our table immediately. Kinda weird since we were in a row of 4 empty tables and the bar didn't serve dessert? Very uncomfortable and no dessert to be found, so we left.
What a very unfortunate first and last experience at Cafe Stella! My parents arrived in town late at night and we decided to go nearby for a night cap at Cafe Stella. My mom ordered an $18 glass of wine - It was a weak pour, but she didn't mind. When it came time to order another, my mom kindly asked that the bar tender give her a stronger pour. Keep in mind - my mom is a harmless, courteous, 60 year-old woman. To this request, the bar tender rudely snapped back "you can pay for that." My dad looked up at the bar tender and said "what?" with a sound of exasperation. To this, the bar tender put my Dad's cash on the table and refused to serve us another drink. Considering we were courteous customers making a very benign request (for an $18 glass of wine) you would think we would be treated a bit better. What a shame that my local bar has such rude staff - I will never be back and would never recommend Cafe Stella to a friend out of fear they may be treated as poorly as my family.
Food was good but the server was pretty snobby. I mean was she taking the 'French' vibe too literally? I checked out other French restaurants in LA, and they were all great including their warm service, this one however needs to improve by a wide margin.
I finally got to check this place out. Huge fan. Servers are friendly, environment is pretty awesome. Food was excellent. Felt like I couldn't even finish my coffee before they filled it up again. No complaints. Love this place.
Cafe Stella is an iconic Silver Lake eatery
specializing in classical French bistro dishes. We arrived just before 9 pm on Thursday night to discover the restaurant was filled to capacity. Luckily for us, the clever hostess found us a nice booth kind of hidden in a corner of the bar. Food was brilliant, as usual. Stella is not a cheap date, but, while rather pricy, the high quality ingredients and masterful preparation make for exceptionally good value. A great place for special occasions or when you just feel like being spoiled and indulged. 🇫🇷
Cafe Stella is a French themed restaurant. The food was delicious, I highly recommend the snails. The nighttime candle lit vibes really gives the restaurant a good feel and makes you hungry. The service is excellent and the waiters are quick and nimble.
Was a nice place, good drinks. I’d recommend only using cash since the bar tenders occasionally drink with their clients and tend to lose things. I only got two drinks before closing out only to find they “misplaced” my card. Two days later and still no help. Time to cancel my visa.
What a headache.
Great location, great vibes, good menu. Not so great service.
Were a party of 3 adults and a 6 year old. The decor is a perfect mix of French brasserie style and LA charm. The menu was perfect french fare. We unfortunately experienced sub-par service but I was assured by a regular that it wasn't typically like this. Would try again as I love a gorgeous, casual French spot and this one was very special. The Stella salad is worth a skip though. Lean into the french-inspired dishes. The croque-madame was a hit.
The service was fantastic, it wasn’t too loud. The granola was quite nice, with very fresh fruit. The eggs Benedict were a little different, but not bad at all.
The menu is broad with good choices for most types of eaters. The wine list is wonderful and our server, Casey, was charming, knowledgable with respect to the wines, and attentive. Service was 5 star. I found the fennel salad to be overdressed, and the Halibut a bit bland and overcooked. At $35 for the plate of fish I expected something closer to perfection, which ultimately led me to a 4 star rating. But our other dishes were excellent, the mushroom pasta is a must. I will definitely return to sample the menu further and hopefully add another star to this review.
I had dinner and drinks with a business associate. We were marking successful completion of a project.
I arrived early and had a happy hour cocktail in the small bar. Then we had an appetizer, entree and i ate dessert.
There is a very high level of service and an emphasis on excellent presentation. The food was very good i thought — almost delicate in the use of flavors and precise preparation. There was not the showy use of flavor one sometimes finds in French cuisine nouvelle, and so maybe not quite the delight i hoped for, but no fault could be found.
The decor is bohemian charming and they are not apologizing for their prices, but an excellent experience.
👍🍻🥂👍🍻🥂👍🍻🥂 Centrally located, great ambiance, drinks and ulsually quite packed. Great place to start off an evening and set the vibe for the rest of the night...
Excellent food! Tried the steak with pepper sauce and the duck. Also desserts were really good. And the ambiance is charming! Highly recommend this restaurant.
Bar Stella is a great bar. Awesome drinks and a great vibe. It can get VERY crowded on the weekends. Cafe Stella is a solid brunch spot, but I wouldn't race there for dinner.
Stella is in Silver Lake, so expect plenty of homeless looking folk eating here. Makes the game homeless or hipster a good pass time while you wait to be seated.
The hostess are always lovely and greet you with a smile. Inteligencia coffee is right around the corner, so either order it for breakfast or walk over afterwards.
Food is good, prices are what would be expected.
The only item in their menu that makes me roll my eyes is their avocado. It is half an avocado drizzled with olive oil with a sprinkle of salt and pepper for 3 to 5 dollars. As far as I know, the avocado wasn't handled by the pope or the president, so I don't know how they can justify the cost, but its fine, I simply look past it and order items on the menu that are worth the cost.
This review is strictly for the speakeasy-like bar in the bar of Cafe Stella. Dimly lit and upbeat, I stepped into a room full of wonder and excitement. I was digging the music they were playing, which seemed to be straight from my Pandora playlist (hint: Bonodo station all the way). There's even a DJ booth area for when the place wants to get extra hype, I guess.
It was my first time at this establishment last night. I was there for a friend's birthday celebration and features your typical 'first come, first serve' seating area.
Because my friend doesn't drink alcohol, we asked Jesse, one of the bartenders (he wears black eyeglasses) to make a nice non-alcoholic drink. What he ended up making my friend blew all of our minds away. I come to find out that it's their cocktail Sea Archer without the alcohol. It was AMAZING and I highly recommend it virgin or with booze. Extremely refreshing with a hint of ginger taste to it.
The one thing I wouldn't necessarily order is their old fashioned. They do not do it well. The balance is extremely off and it's way too strong. I'd rather take my whiskey neat than to have it mixed w/whatever they put in their old fashions. It literally tasted like gasoline was in my mouth. Be warned!
