I stated going to Encore after school to play in some of the evening games after the 2013 New Year. After reading Dan B's review, I was skeptical of the place, but upon playing in multiple tournaments, I can say that nothing from his review seemed accurate. For example to get a drink while playing, you just have to ask the dealer for service. Within a few minutes, a server arrives to take your order and brings you a drink within a reasonable amount of time. The club's interior feels clean and new. All of the tables have excellent felt and are actual poker tables and not just tops that some places have. The food isn't horrible, but it is just bar food with the regular assortment of fried food and sandwiches. The bar has a decent selection of beer ranging from PBR to Rouge as well as a variety of well and top-shelf booze at typical Portland prices. The players at the club are all decent; they expect you to know how to play, and they expect you to understand tourney play. With that being said, you shouldn't be discouraged from playing there if you are new or still learning, but don't be shocked if you get called out for playing a hand you shouldn't. I haven't come across anyone that has been terribly rude, but don't be afraid to bring headphones.
