A solid meal choice in Deadwood. Chicken was great. It is cool to visit as it was the location of the original Gem Saloon. I just wish it was a more old fashioned atmosphere, but it is definitely a nice dining room.
The service was welcoming, and the food very good. I had Buffalo Bills open face sandwich for lunch. Sliced buffalo on mashed potatoes with gravy on Texas toast. The portion was large, so I got a to go box to eat the rest for dinner. The price was very reasonable for a dine in restaurant
The waitress is very nice and helpful. She had the entire restaurant to take care of and still gave excellent service.
I recommend the Gem. Next time I stop in Deadwood, I will go to the Gem to eat.
It is rather cool to get to eat at the original location of the original Gem.
When we walked in, we were immediately treated kindly, and the employees were helpful. The steak I got was perfect, and the fries also, were amazing! Only downside was that while in the establishment a disruption with the Gentex Commander Code 3s (Fire Alarms) occurred.
We stopped in today and found the service was excellent as well as the food. Amanda G. Was our server and was very attentive. There were many choices and price points for all. When we had trouble deciding Amanda suggested the Walleye.
It was excellent and moderately priced. The Salad was fresh and the Chicken Gumbo had a lot of flavor.
Good choice.
Stopped in for breakfast. The place was empty except for us and one other customer. Server greeted us promptly and took our order. Steak and Eggs (medium rare) and Eggs Benedict. More than 20 minutes pass and server returned to tell us the cook over cooked the steak and had to start over. More time passes. Meal finally arrived. Eggs Benedict was good. Steak was well done. Not medium rare. Not medium. Not medium well. Well done. We were out of time and couldn’t wait for a 3rd try. Husband sawed through the well done steak. Server said she would take care of it. We assumed that meant take it off the bill. She brought the check and told us she credited “fifteen percent”. “Fifty percent?”, I asked. “FIFTEEN”, she said. Unreasonable wait, and two ruined steaks. This is a steakhouse.
My wife and I came here for breakfast on our anniversary. The food was great, the steak cooked perfectly. Great service, friendly staff, and honestly probably the best Bloody Mary I have ever had. The manager, Laura, was exceptional. She completely made our day! We were floored by her kindness and generosity in making our anniversary special. Its people like Laura that really make a place stand out. I know that we will be back any time we are in Deadwood.
They deleted the Facebook page that I originally left a review on. It has almost been year and I am still upset. We waited almost an hour to be sat. A group of men that came in obnoxious and drunk were seated before us as soon as we walked in. We waited 15 minutes before our water was brought to us. Another ten for drinks. The cook had to come out and take our order because the waitresses were taking so long. Worst part. There was 2 tables when we walked in. It was St. Patrick weekend so the staff was just that hungover!!. I have only ever left 2 bad reviews in my life because I am a server and believe in the benefit of the doubt but the service that day was abysmal. The casino downstairs is clean and praiseworthy.
Excellent service. Food tasted rancid like the grill needed cleaned. Requested gluten free but the food must have been cross contacted causing me to get ill. Okay for basic food.
