Review for Occidental Grand Aruba Review For Occidental Grand Aruba Google User Dec 21 '13 at 21:33 We've been to Cozumel many times and stayed a majority of those times next door at the Iberostar. We were hoping for something a little more upscale that did not have the musty smell that most Cozumel hotel rooms have. Unfortunately, we should have stuck with the Iberostar. If you've never been to Cozumel, you need to understand that most of the hotels are 20+ years old and there is very little glitz and glamour. The Island is relaxing and if you are a diver, it's paradise. My review will compare the Grand to the Iberostar which is ½ mile south on the beach. Why the Grand is better: Wait Staff is more attentive. Water pressure in the shower is outstanding (better than home) Room is a little larger – same hard bed and 1970's bed spread. Why the Grand is worse: Food was not great – much smaller choice and being pesitarian, the lack of non-fried fish choices was disappointing (strange since it's an island) Facility is smaller and not laid out well. TIMESHARE PEOPLE RUINED IT – little more detail: 1. I'm in sales, and appreciate a good salesperson so I'll sit through a presentation many times to critique it or learn something. 2. The roper (guy at registration that gets you) was nice and fairly transparent with what to expect (small bit of over promising), the sales person we had lunch with (Steve) was pleasant and had interesting background. The pitch is basically a club timeshare with a 25 year commitment. The yearly dues made it borderline interesting, but then a $60k price tag to buy into the club made it outlandish and usurious. 3. As with all good sales motions, a handoff to the manager needs to happen. We got Chris…. He did the normal closing bologna and then did the most cheesy thing ever, by writing a $19.8k price upside down on a piece of paper. 4. No big deal, but what rubbed me the wrong way was how unprofessional he became when I challenged his basic math skills on how crappy a deal it was. He stormed away like a petulant child muttering that they stayed 2 hours later for us. (Like we wanted to be there listening to his rants) Bottom line is that we will never stay there again, even if it was free. View full site to comment or like
