Terrible. Unmitigated disaster. How is this rated as a 5-star hotel? It doesn't meet the basic requirements to be a 5-star hotel. A/C, TV, toilet, and safe in our room were all broken. We were checked in improperly so missed out on many of the benefits we were supposed to receive. Were part of wedding group and did not receive the wedding bags (including the wedding itinerary) until hours after the wedding was finished (despite asking three separate times for the bag and itinerary). All ocean-front buildings are under construction so pools are surrounded by jack-hammering and covered in construction dust. Food is vile, everyone in our group got sick. Resort credits are a scam. In a meek attempt to apologize for our awful experience the front desk first offered us a free 25-minute couple's massage. That was nice except a free 25-minute couple's massage was included in the package we had purchased. Once we pointed that out they offered us "$100 dollars in resort credits" meaning the put 100 Resort Credits in our account. During the many sleepless hours I spent on the floor of the bathroom being sick from the food I calculated that each resort credit is worth between $0.200 and $0.448 each. So "$100 in resort credits" is actually worth between $20 and $45. They then charge you a 20% "tax" to use the resort credits (even though the tax rate in the DR is 18%). They will pressure you to use the resort credits (so they can collect the tax) before they will give you the ticket you need to leave the property when checking out (yes, you are basically a prisoner and cannot leave unless given a pass to leave). Oh yeah, and the casino dealer couldn't count to 21, which seems to be the most basic requirement to be a blackjack dealer. Do not go. You can get the same quality from the cheapest Carnival Cruise for 1/3 of the price. You can step it up to a Royal Caribbean or a Norwegian cruise and get much better quality for 1/2 the price. This hotel is such a rip-off that my wife and mother-in-law recently spent the same number of days at Casa de Campo (a 5-star Leading Hotel of the World 1.5 hours from Hard Rock) for less money than we were charged by Hard Rock. Do yourself a favor and stay away. Go somewhere else. Anywhere else.
