I went as part of a conference. There was a lot of waiting around to check in, in my case they checked me in and said the room wasn't ready and they would contact me. I waited for about 2 hours and then just went and checked in again and finally got a room. Not what I needed after traveling for 24 hours from Australia.
The conference facilities are huge and very professionally run. Just allow time to get from your room to the conference area as it is a good 10 minute walk.
Compared to other parts of the US Las Vegas is an expensive place and the Mandalay is no exception. Expect to spend plenty to eat and especially drink. That being said all the restaurants within the hotel were very good from the very expensive to the mid range.
Rooms are clean and spacious.
All up I can recommend the Mandalay if you going as a conference participant.
