On arrival at the Sunworld Dynasty Hotel in Beijing, we were immediately somewhat unimpressed.
Surely a hotel selling itself as a four star world class hotel would train its staff to greet guests arriving by Taxi from the airport and help them with their baggage rather then watch them struggle through the hotels windows
One member of staff just stood there with his Finger so far up his left nostril, I thought he was in danger of pulling his own brain out!
Check in was ok and we were happy to wait for the availability of the room as to be fair, we arrived at noon whist check in was 3pm
We asked the luggage desk to take care of four of our luggage whilst we went to find somewhere to eat in the hotel but, was given no receipt or ticket even when requested.
Upon return from our lunch at the Chinese restaurant on the 2nd floor, our bags were still on the cart and had not been taken to our room.
Neither was any offer made to help carry our luggage to our room but unceremoniously handed back to us.
Side stepping the exact same member of staff we observed with his finger up his nose earlier, this time with his index finger up the other nostril, we found the elevator but then had to quickly figure out how to use it as no apparent instruction how to do so.
To be fair, it wasn’t difficult. Just insert your room card in a slot and press the right button.
Except this elevator had one bank of buttons on one side of the elevator with no room key slot and another the other side which did have a slot.
Not to worry, we worked it out.
The room was at least very nice. Spacious, well equipped and the expected things that a four star hotel should have. The WiFi was good but alas, Facebook impossible to access as indeed the Google search engine and Gmail. Blocked by the Chinese authorities I’m assuming.
The bathroom was well appointed and clean too. Soap, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion as well as facial tissues.
The carpet was reasonably clean, the bed quite soft and nice bedding. A good sized flat screen TV too.
Our room had a good sized writing desk with chair as well, the room had a coffee table and two comfortable side chairs in which to rest in.
The room itself looked out onto a covered atrium or Plaza which was quite pleasant. There was a small bar located in one corner of this area.
My only concern was the lackluster manner of the staff, their disinterested manner as if this was just a job whereby they just came to work for little pay perhaps?
All of the above stated, I would still recommend this hotel but just be aware that its reputation as a four star hotel is tarnished by its staffing issues.
