Have visited this resort twice, just returned from our second visit.
Pros
- Food & drink are a good value, enjoyed most of the restaurants and services especially: Ciao, Toro, Zen, and the coffee bar in the main lobby.
- Amenities are generally easy to book, reasonably priced (for a resort), and can be paid for with resort credits. My wife and I had great experiences at the spa and golf course.
- Staff is friendly, room service(s) are quick to respond, language barrier is moderate.
Cons
- Renovation/construction being completed in our building (roughly 1/3 of the rooms occupied, the others being painted, floors replaced, etc.) led to terrible worker traffic, noise, and smells (paint, paint thinner, etc.); very poorly planned and scheduled by management.
- Check-in was unorganized, we were separated from our group initially, spent 6 phone calls and 2 visits to the lobby to get this corrected, which took over 24 hours even though rooms were available.
- 20% service charge is straight-out ridiculous. Enticing visitors with enormous resort credit offers (we received 2,000) only to have them open their wallets again to pay an up-charge to use them is an extremely annoying way to generate a few extra dollars. We ended up using fewer credits for amenities to avoid the service charge (services which we would have gladly tipped for!!!) strictly based on principle. Poor strategy.
- Traffic through the resort walkways was horrendous. There wasn't a single walk where we didn't feel as though we were going to be run down by a golf-cart, trolley, or worker transport truck; there should be a service vehicle-only path.
All in all, you get what you pay for; we visited a few years back and had a great experience, and it seems as though the resort has gone downhill. Would recommend staying elsewhere, or know what you're getting before arriving.
