I brought my wife to Carter Green at Island View for a belated Mother’s Day dinner. While the decor of the restaurant itself was nice, the service and that food itself left much to be desired. All of the staff in the restaurant seemed rushed (and honestly felt like they didn’t want to be there) and did not go out of their way to make our visit personable at all. The server failed to even ask my wife what side she wanted with her dinner, and it wasn’t until I reminded her that she did not order one that we had to flag the server down and let him know. I order the Filet au Poivre with mashed potatoes, and my wife had the Bone-In Veal Chop with the sweet potato. While the steak itself was okayish it was way too peppery for my taste. I have had au Poivre style steak at other restaurants so I know how it is supposed to be, but they could have backed off on the pepper a little. My wife’s veal chop wasn’t all that great. The sides were normal, nothing spectacular about them. We had the Crème Brulee for dessert, which was okay. At the end of the meal we left the restaurant rather disappointed, especially given the occasion for which I brought my wife there for. We have been to the majority of fine dining restaurants offered in the casinos on the Gulf Coast, and I would rank this restaurant on the very bottom.
