MSC Cruises

Loved the ship!s layout and decor as well as the smooth embarkation and disembarkation. We had a balcony cabin on deck 12 midship which was quite beautiful and roomy. The theatre shows were extremely professional and were quite enjoyable, especially the Michael Jackson Tribute on the last night. Finding a deck or poolside chair was usually done within minutes ( Garden area on deck 15 aft was our favourite ) as was finding a table in the buffet area when we went there. However, having done over 30 cruises and with this being our first on MSC, we found several shortcomings ( to us anyway). On day 1 we asked our cabin steward to please have ice in our room at all times ( put the ice bucket in the cabin room fridge ) and to leave 2 glasses in our room at all times. I ended up having to go down to the bar on deck 10 every afternoon to get get ice and had to call room service 5 out of the 7 days to bring us a couple glasses ( the used glasses having been removed by the cabin steward and not replaced). This was the first time we encountered this. Not a major problem but an inconvenience nevertheless, especially when customer service is so highly advertised. Other differences we found were the scarcity (non existence really) of live bands throughout the ships' bars. They did have a pianist and a sometimes violinist in the main atrium in the evenings but that was the extent of "live music". As mentioned before the theatre shows were excellent but there were no other entertainers such as guest speakers or comedians which we found on other cruise lines. Another plus we found was that there was no smoking allowed in the casino but again that's a personal preference. My wife did have an issue with the internet service which we felt was not resolved in a professional manner. After paying $29.99 for 24 hours of internet it was cut off after less than 2 hours. When she asked for an explanation at the service desk she was treated very rudely by a lady called Sara (she said she was a supervisor) who told my wife "not to expect your money back!". My wife wasn't looking for her money back.......just an explanation as to why she was told the internet service was for 24 hours only to have it cut off after 1 and 1/2 hours. In talking with other passengers we met on this cruise we found that this particular lady as well as other members of the ships staff were very uncooperative and difficult to deal with. While I realize this problem is not unique to this ship/cruiseline this is the first time we have encountered it. Will we cruise with this cruise line again? We are not sure. We generally purchase a cruise based on the ship rather than the ports to which it travels. Will we get the same type of service on another MSC ship as we did on the Divina? Some of our "complaints" might be just with this ship ( cabin service and central desk service) while others ( live bands, guest entertainers) might be common to all MSC ships.. I guess we'll end up sailing with the cruiseline that we feel is better suited to our preferences.
