My most recent trip to Riverside Casino was two days ago. I went with a friend who is a more experienced video poker player than I am. Neither of us goes to the casino alone, and I had finally finished a time-sensitive project, so it was a perfect time for the easy drive from Iowa City. The casino and dining area are large, bright, welcoming and immaculately clean. I've never stayed in the hotel, but my friend and his visiting brothers often do so when they want a longer gaming session. He reports that the rooms are more than adequate and are perfect for overnight visits to the casino. The dining area offers various specials during the week and the selection of menu items is large and varied. The staff are always friendly and unobtrusive--there when you need them, but otherwise not intrusive. The casino also offers regularly scheduled musical performances in the bar/dance area. The bands cover a range of genres, with frequent performances by bands from the 70's and 80's (Cowsills, anyone? Gary Puckett and the Union Gap? The Turtles?). I've never been, but my friend is a former musician so he and his wife regularly attend for an evening of music and dance ("It's great fun!"). So all-in-all, Riverside Casino can provide a variety of social activities--it's a perfect place for a short get-away during the cold of winter and the heat of an Iowa summer.
