Los Alamitos Race Course

I only didn't like this place because I brought my kiddo here for a Halloween youth event. We got a little lost but I was so disappointed to find some attendees without kids smoking right next to the kids with no regard and security didn't care!! We left because I refuse to subject my kid to cigar and cigarette smoke if I can prevent it. I feel like the Halloween event shouldn't have been advertised as totally kid friendly.... ijs.... but I'd go and watch the races if I didn't have my kid. It looked like fun... and I've never experienced that sort of thing as an adult before

Los Alamitos Race Course

Great little race track. Not as big or as fancy as Santa Anita or Del Mar, but lots of fun and smaller crowds

Los Alamitos Race Course

The entire place smells like an ash tray. But there's good racing, and Vessels is great. Tons of parking. Longest stretch (thoroughbreds) in North America.

Los Alamitos Race Course

Not very busy, fairly cheap (few dollars, kids are free), and parking is free. Good place to take the kids and watch some horses close up and watch races, provided you avoid the smoking areas. Too bad they will be moving soon...

Los Alamitos Race Course

Beautiful horse racing track. Very clean inside and out. Went to simulcast racing and service from cashiers and others was excellent. We'll be going again.

Los Alamitos Race Course

Well this is no Santa Anita by any means. Yet if you are looking for a stinky place to rub elbows with gamblers from all walks of life and enjoy a salty greasy hot dog with a beer that will leave you barley fartin' all the way home then this is the place. We loved it!

Los Alamitos Race Course

Quaint little track that has a nostalgic feel. Unfortunately it's in need of an upgrade as well. The live racing aspect is pretty cool and has a loyal following. The locals seem to enjoy the intimate experience and interaction. The facility is so-so. I went out a couple exits from the 2nd floor of the grandstand and they were dirty, dark and frankly didn't feel safe as they let you out in weird places. There were sandbags and trash almost blocking the doors. The simulcast isn't horrible when it comes to most major tracks, but they book partial cards and races every day and that's very, very annoying. While you can petty much count on a track like Gulfstream or Belmont to have every race offered for betting, you literally have no idea what's running overall and have to insert a voucher to see what races are available for a particular track. For example, they may only book races 3-5 at the Meadowlands out of the 12 offered. I've actually not encountered this anywhere across the country and was disappointed. On top of that they charge $5 admission in the clubhouse just for simulcasting but the machines are newer and work fine. Apparently the state of horse racing is a bit hazy in So Cal with the rumored sale of Los Al and Del Mar as well (according to a nice and well-informed lady at the info booth). They have some red tape and in-fighting that includes Indian Tribes, etc. Oh well, if you haven't been it's definitely worth a weekend stop.
