I found the staff friendly (in contrast to people said below), the place is def not fancy but my biggest problem is the just insane rake at the lower stakes. Ok if you play higher but 5$ PER HAND at 2-3$ no matter the potsize is just insane. Nobody can win there in the long run at those stakes so if you want to make money then play higher. Nice with free fruit, coffee etc.

Palomar Card Club

I've been to Palomar a few times over the past year. I enjoy playing poker and have made runs to the local casinos before, but I don't play that often. Before I made the first trip to Palomar, I had seen it on Google maps and thought it would be great to go to a place so close, but I wasn't convinced it was for me since the reviews were up and down. It seemed like it was a place for gang members or card sharks. However, when I finally decided to try it out, I found it to be a simple and functional card room and nothing more. The people there are just normal card players. I never felt unsafe or duped. I'm sure a person can lose money if he plays poorly, or if he plays well and is unlucky, but it's not like there is a conspiracy or anything unfair going on. I'm not a connoisseur, but I do grant that the etiquette at the tables is not quite the same level as the casinos I've visited. And the place is a bit cramped and utilitarian. On the whole I've never felt it affected my ability to play cards. But I'm not picky or very experienced, so if you like things "just so", perhaps it isn't your cup o' tea. TLDR; if you like to play poker, give this place a try.

Palomar Card Club

Small hole in the wall casino but close to downtown and very convenient. I like that i don't have to drive far to play poker and blackjack.

Despite an hour wait at 3pm on a Wednesday for a $3/6 table (my own fault for not calling in like some people said in other reviews, they will reserve it for an hour) it was an overall good experience. It would be nice if they had a waiting area though. People at the table were playing EXTREMELY LOOSE and it seemed like they would see a flop with any two cards in the deck. If you're trying to make money and not straight up gamble its the right crowd to capitalize on. Indifferent about service from staff but definitely no complaints. Will be going back much more regularly.

Palomar Card Club

Dirty, surly, and sad. Dealer school dropouts sneer and scoff at players amidst a sea of abandoned drinks and food. The metal chips are so worn out THE DENOMINATIONS ARE WORN OFF. Name of casino isn't visible, and neither is an amount. I know it's a small casino, but surely they can afford to maintain chips that at least show the player how much they're worth. When a player was cursing her luck as she re-bought, the dealer counted out a stack of checks then splashed the player with them to show attitude. Incredible! Get better chips, pick up the trash, and for God's sake, get these angry, immature dealers in line. I've been in and out of card rooms for 15 years and I've never seen a less professional group of dealers in my life.
