Certainly the worst vacation we had! We have witnessed a very bad deterioration across the board since Barcelo had taken over the Occidental Vacation club that we are Royal members of.
Our suites have been degraded to a much lower level of what we bought and paid for. The excellent entertainment is gone, taken over by something that is redundant and a total waste of time.
Now to our trip at Punta Cana. If you are from the Us. or Canada, don't even bother to consider this resort. It is catered to the locals. As an English speaking person, you will be badly mistreated. Don't bother to attempt to improve things by reporting it to Mr. Luis Namnum the VP of Customer service. I have done that, Mr. Luis Namnum is just as disrespectful as his staff at the first club at Punta Cana.
Just a couple of examples so you know what you should expect:
1.
I with another three first club member families bought a day boat trip, exclusive First Club Members ONLY!
Early morning of the trip, we have taken a buss ride to the location about 30 minutes away.
When we arrived, we have been informed that the First Club Employee that sold us this boat trip, resold it as an exclusive trip to a group that are NOT first club member. We had to walk for miles to a road where we could get a taxi to return to the resort

The evening before we checked out; we talked to the same employee at the first club to arrange a transportation for us to the airport at 3:00 am. We were assured that a complimentary transportation will wait for us at 3:00 am.
This promised transportation NEVER arrived. At 3:26 am we had no choice but to call a taxi to get us to the airport. We made it to our flight in a nick of time
Mr. Luis Namnum, praised the good work of his employees and went so far to threaten me that if I will make my experience public, he will revoke our membership.
We have consulted with a local law firm that assured us that they will take this matter on contingency if Mr. Luis Namnum makes good on his threats.
Be aware and do not let you hard earned vacation be a miserable experience.
I was reading the reviews and have a very strong feeling that all the 5 stars are given by Barcelo employees to offset the true 1 and 2 stars.
The 1 and 2 stars are very well deserved. I wouldn't trust anything above than that.
