I lived a dream during 3 days. We were in paradise, in the middle of nature, monkeys around the swimming pool, sloths in the trees. We had an Oceam suite, the view was breathtaking and the room very modern. The staff was really friendly and attentive. I did not want to leave that place. I hope to come back as soon as possible

We had such a great time at Makanda, the public areas of the hotel are very clean and the room service was so thorough, the staff were very friendly and helpful they would answer all your questions and inquiries with a smile, except for a few people, but mostly they were nice. The breakfast was amazing, however the options are very limited. It's a little bit off the main road so we ended up taking a lot of taxis which was quite expensive. overall it's a awesome experience. a little pricey but worth every penny.

This place is incredible! It is like stepping into another world. The buildings blend with the forest to create an really unique feeling. The staff is super attentive and the views from the two pools are to die for. If you can’t stay here, I highly recommend visiting the spa or restaurant to experience this magical place.

A beautiful paradise. Chic, modern design of the rooms, with spectacular views, especially in the rooms on the higher part of the property. My husband and I stayed in Villa 1, and our favorite part of the day was watching the sunset from our private porch. As we were here for our honeymoon, we were welcomed with a bottle of champagne and a gift certificate for a spa treatment! None of the other 4 hotels we stayed in Costa Rica that did that for us. Thank you in particular to Jorge and Darwin who were the warm, helpful faces of Makanda during our stay there. They went above and beyond to make sure all our needs were met! There was some construction going on at the time and they were gladly willing to move us further from the noise.
We loved that we could see animals up close here - white faced monkey's traversed our porch almost every other day for the week that we spent there and we saw howler monkeys up close at the pool during breakfast. Plus, the hotel had the two infinity pools. It was a truly unique experience.
The only place I could have noted improvement was that the check-in experience at the reception could be warmer. A map of the layout of the hotel with a list of the different amenities offered would have made a huge difference to our overall feeling of connectedness to the hotel (we had no idea there was a private beach until 3 days in).
Other than that, we highly recommend this hotel without reservation for anyone looking for a unique, otherworldly, modern, romantic experience!

Amazing customer service, especially by Alex at the bar. The food and drink is great, not cheap but worth the price especially for the extra touches such as flower garnishes. The rooms are beautiful. We were disappointed that a pool was closed for our trip, but since the hotel is small the saltwater pool by the bar was just fine. The town is an uphill walk but has nice cafes and restaurants. Overall it has a great and relaxing atmosphere and I would definitely recommend Makanda- if you can afford it or find a deal it's worth it.

This fabulous place is indescribable in beauty of nature! Enchanting sunsets, warm ocean, soft sounds of the night tropics ... and all this next to the national park Manuel Antonio. My accommodation in one of the rooms of the super-comfortable villa is boldly rated at 6 stars! I'm delighted with hotel restaurant's exclusive design with a variety of healthy food. Pleasant live music and a variety of cocktails complement the romantic evening ...

Amaaaazing hotel. The property is beautiful, the rooms are great, we saw sloths, toucans, and monkeys while lounging in the pool. The ocean views are amazing and the food/drinks are also great. Highly recommend!

AMAZING, ABSOLUTE PARADISE. GORGEOUS hotel, very small very boutique, the pools are never overcrowded, upscale guests, outstanding service. Currently here and we wished we had booked it much longer. Super romantic, great drinks, all made with fresh fruit, food is also really good. Best money ever spent.

My fiance and I spent two weeks in Costa Rica in January traveling to three different destinations, one of which was Manuel Antonio where we stayed at Makanda. The 5 nights we stayed in Makanda were by far the best of our trip, and I say that even though we thoroughly enjoyed our entire experience across the country. The service at Makanda is impeccable on all points. From our initial greeting to our departure every experience was intentional on behalf of the staff.
Makanda is situated on a bluff overlooking the Pacific and every view from all the rooms, both pools, and the restaurant are perfect. While we loved everything about our stay at Makanda, our favorite was the breakfast on the terrace pool every morning. The coffee, food, and service was of such high quality that even though we are now far from Ocean views, the piece we still miss most was enjoying our breakfast every morning.
The other great aspect of Makanda is there are a limited number of rooms, so even when it is "full" it is never crowded. You get to know the guests a bit as there are only a handful of people staying. And Manuel Antonio itself is a wonderful little town. We took the opportunity to walk the half mile (uphill) most evenings to get dinner at one of the fun restaurants on the main road, but it is also an easy cab ride to the top if you desire.
We have been a lot of places and generally make a point to keep our travel to new places at this point in our lives. But both of us agree we want to get back to Makanda and spend even more time sooner rather than later.

This was a beautiful, magical experience! The hotel, pool(s) and the location are gorgeous. Spectacular view from our room. The staff members were so gracious and helpful. We can't wait to come back!
