A beautiful paradise. Chic, modern design of the rooms, with spectacular views, especially in the rooms on the higher part of the property. My husband and I stayed in Villa 1, and our favorite part of the day was watching the sunset from our private porch. As we were here for our honeymoon, we were welcomed with a bottle of champagne and a gift certificate for a spa treatment! None of the other 4 hotels we stayed in Costa Rica that did that for us. Thank you in particular to Jorge and Darwin who were the warm, helpful faces of Makanda during our stay there. They went above and beyond to make sure all our needs were met! There was some construction going on at the time and they were gladly willing to move us further from the noise. We loved that we could see animals up close here - white faced monkey's traversed our porch almost every other day for the week that we spent there and we saw howler monkeys up close at the pool during breakfast. Plus, the hotel had the two infinity pools. It was a truly unique experience. The only place I could have noted improvement was that the check-in experience at the reception could be warmer. A map of the layout of the hotel with a list of the different amenities offered would have made a huge difference to our overall feeling of connectedness to the hotel (we had no idea there was a private beach until 3 days in). Other than that, we highly recommend this hotel without reservation for anyone looking for a unique, otherworldly, modern, romantic experience!
