After having a horrible experience at another local hotel and that place leaving us with no room at 8pm on a Friday, this hotel helped us get a last minute room at nearly 11pm. The manager was super helpful and even gave us our room discounted as close as she could to our previous reservation's price (which was significantly less than Shilo). The pool was warm, the room was clean, you're right on the beach, the view is great, and the staff are wonderful. It's not the easiest to access everything from parking to the room to the pool to the restaurant and desk, etc. Kind of a funky layout, but there are elevators from the parking structure to the main floors. I recommend it when you stay in Newport!

Complete rip off! I came here because I needed a place that accepted pets, had a good view and a pool. On the web site it says there is a 75 dollar hold for pets. Well that's false, in reality they just charge you an extra 25 a night. The pool is only 3 feet deep and there is no hot tub. The place is just cheap, uneven wall paper, poor job with the tiling (uneven) and cracked and wiggling in the elevator. My tub made a loud cracking noise when I stepped in. My point is for the price, 110 dollars a night in the dead of winter is something I would expect to pay for a much better place.

My husband and I stayed here for a couple of nights (we booked online before reading the reviews, so it's our fault for staying at such a rough and old run down hotel) I don't have much good to say about our stay.
Pros: Great ocean view. The bed was comfortable, the staff was courteous.
Cons: The cable did not work, the volume on several channels did not work, no DVD player as advertised, The coffee in the room was horrible and the coffee cup was dirty and the drinking water taste terrible. Price high for a studio. Rooms very old and run down, the paint is peeling, the heater controls are old and horrendous, cat or dog hair on the furniture and smelled like kitty litter, cadet heater is old and rusted, microwave was very small and the restaurant is over priced for the quantity although the quality was pretty good for what we had.

Great hotel room, friendly staff, great beach access. Gets 4 stars because the breakfast cafe was closed for renovations. Still highly recommend!

We came here after a VRBO disaster, leaving my large party stranded. The staff was so understanding, helping get us in rooms quickly and going above and beyond to accommodate us. I am definitely impressed with the service, they saved my son's birthday trip!

First of all this this hotel is a PRIME location. We had an ocean view room and could even observe the spray from whales from our balcony! We were here on the 4th of July and were within walking distance from the big fireworks display in downtown Newport. So this hotel does need some updates and doesn’t have AC (it is 55 at night), but everything was clean and worked just fine. If you are in Newport on a budget and are here to admire the town and ocean and not spend all day in your hotel room, this is the place for you.

The staff at check in were very friendly. We were told our room had been upgraded. It was like we were time warped back to the 90s with the out of date room decor. But, the main thing was everything was clean and comfortable. The views of the ocean were breathtaking. We were able to walk down to the beach to enjoy the sunset. Waking up to sounds and view of the beach is worth it.

Desk staff is great. Very accommodating and helpful. First floor rooms have a nice view but they are horribly hot with tiny sliding windows and no other ventilation. The rooms are old and dated and certainly show it. They have an interesting odor to them. One of age, water, lack of a real thorough cleaning. Water pressure is better in the sink than the shower. Someone really should tell them it's the little things that make a difference. Light bulbs that aren't burned out would be a start. Maybe some fresh paint. If you can't find a room someplace else or you're on a budget it's a place to stay.

Shilo affordable excellence? Maybe affordable. Excellence not so much! Desk staff were nice and informative at check in. Lounge and restaurant staff slow to acknowledge your existence and the place was not busy at all for a Saturday evening on Father's day weekend. My wife and I left after our cocktail and went to dinner down the street at Georgie's beachside grill. That place was GREAT! One star because you have to give it something 😒

We just had the most horrific dining experience we have ever had ( and my partner is a server). We arrived at 4:50. Our server arrived at 5, and told us dinner service didn't start until 5. The busser told our server that it actually was 5. She brought us our dinner menus. Paused. And muttered that she was going to say something, but she forgot. She took our drink orders and wandered off. (Let me add... there were two other tables at this time). She brought our drinks in a slow, but reasonable time and took our food order. That was the last time she visited us for 45 minutes. In that time, one table left and another couple came in. A gentleman, who turned out to be a manager, came in and took that couple's order. Meanwhile...we're still waiting for any attention 30 minutes in. Our drinks are gone. We have no food. At 45 minutes she brings us bread. At an hour, we flag her down and I politely say that an hour is a long time to wait for no food and one drink in an almost empty restaurant. She apologizes and it still takes another 15 minutes to bring us our food. By then, we were hungry and frustrated and asked for it to go. She brought us our bill. We immediately put out our cards. We waited for 15 minutes, during which she walked past us 3 times (again, only two other tables in the restaurant)and we watched a woman walk past us twice with our boxed up food. We finally stood up, put 10 dollars cash on the table to cover our drinks and walked out. We made no secret about it. We stood up, held up our cards and walked out. The manager followed us out. We said we were not waiting anymore. We pointed to the house we were staying at when he threatened us, and walked home. Almost 2 hours later, the POLICE knocked at our door. He threatened to take us all to jail. Two of our party walked back to the restaurant, still refusing to pay for the food and service we never received. We were more than willing to pay for any difference between the 10 dollars we left and the drink tab. The manager first refused to acknowledge the 10 dollars we left and then said that it didn't count for the drink tab because it was left "as a tip" ( for nonexistent service). We paid the full drink tab and left. We were disgusted. The cop was disgusted. I've been coming to this same spot with my family for years. While I know my business wont make or break you, I will never come to your restaurant again. I've never seen anything like this.
