According to Google maps, THIS was the location of the "Painted Desert". The first pic was an enterance to who the hell knows what, and across the street was the unofficial visitors center complete with "restroom." So I drove 45 minutes all the way off the main road for ..this??

The painted desert is so beautiful. So much color and beauty in one place. The desert landscape is magnificent. This is one of m favorite National parks. There were plenty of viewpoint or lookouts. Each had a great view. You will have plenty of opportunities to take photographs at the colorful desert landscape. It was just mesmerizing and relaxing to look at all the scenery. This was a great trip and I am glad that we decided to take the time to drive through this magnificent National Park.

This is worth taking the drive off the highway just to see the views. If you are into seeing the national parks and you're in Arizona to see the attractions they have to offer, buy a park pass while you're there and it'll cover all of their national parks including the rest of the national parks in the United States.

Just to clarify: this is an 8 year old's review. I think the whole trip starts off with a gift shop, and I don't know if that's stupid or genius, but i dig it. It's a loop of scenic viewpoints, and on the day that we went it was very windy. Instead of focussing on the fact that it's very beautiful, the people reading this can see that on google images. I just want to give an anecdote about the fact that on that day I wanted to pull a Ricky Martin move where I opened my jacket to catch the wind, and the wind carried me 20ft into the painted desert, and everyone, my dad, my brother, and foreign tourists, had to hop the fence to go get me. It was a very magical day at the painted desert. Oh, and there's some really cool petrified wood there.

I loved it here. The views are breathtaking and serene. The petrified Forest is amazing. It's hard to comprehend that the fossils occurred naturally. Fabulous time. Use the Nat Park pass.

Stunning. However, it's similar to other parts of Utah and Arizona that have colorful dunes, so I would say if you've been around the four corner states and seen a lot of "painted" dunes and deserts, you probably will not be blown away by anything new. But if you're not from around here, ABSOLUTELY take the time out of your route to drive through the service road and see these views.
