The Taj is still one of the better hotels in Atlantic City, if you're lucky to get an upgrade to the Chairman's Tower. The room was spotless, the bathroom huge, and check in effortless. Check out is at noon, giving you an extra hour to sleep.
There is a $15 resort fee that I am not sure what it pays for. There is a decent sized pool, but access to the steam room and hot tub cost extra. Be sure to sign up for the casino card before parking if possible, as even the basic tier gets discounted parking.
Now, with the Showboat and Revel closed, the Taj is the northernmost hotel on the boardwalk. The center of the boardwalk, the boardwalk hall, is a nice 15 minute walk away. Or take the $2 boardwalk tram. The hotel itself has a good variety of shops and restaurants, though due to a labor dispute, some venues (like the buffet) are temporarily closed as of December 2015. Note that Trump does not own the hotel any more, so you can stay here regardless of what you think of him.
