This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in, and I am not usually picky. My husband and I were on our honeymoon, and all I can say is DO NOT STAY HERE if you're looking for a relaxing vacation. The entire resort smelled like a giant toilet, especially near the pools. The beach was nice, but that's not RIU, that's Costa Rica in its natural beauty.... The buffet food wasn't very good, the only food we has other than that was Tucan and it was pretty good. HOWEVER. Our room was downright disgusting. There was eye makeup stains on my pillowcase and other stains on the sheets/bedspread. The floor was dirty, all surfaces were dirty/dusty. We had no bath towels. There was a giant cricket in the shower, poor guy. There was a wet tissue in the sink. Brown stains on the bathroom walls.... Don't even want to know. I got no cell reception at all except on the beach, and wifi in the room was 15 dollars extra. When we tried to check in it was so crowded, we pulled up and the guy told us to park our car and bring our bags. I ended up bringing the bags while my husband parked the car on the street... They didn't offer to help at all. I'm telling you, this place was a disaster. We hated it so much that we went down the beach, looked up nearby hotels, and cancelled the rest of our stay at RIU to go somewhere else. We drove 20 minutes to Bosque del Mar in Playa Hermosa and this place is a million times nicer, and less money. It isn't all inclusive but the food is spectacular, the beach is gorgeous, and the people are incredibly friendly. We even told them why we were only here for one day and the experience we had, and they let us check in hours early and even upgraded our room to an ocean view. If you're honeymooners, please stay away from RIU! I am sad that we wasted a day of our vacation there, but what's done is done and playa Hermosa is wonderful.
