I ate at the evening buffet the Monday after Easter. I am well aware of the limitations of the buffet during this long remodeling period, but having said that, even my low expectations were exceeded. The meal offerings were incredibly poor quality and certainly not worth the slightly reduced cost. Everything was just starch, starch, starch. I watched as the restless attendant continuously squirted a yellow colored artificial butter into the mashed potatoes and then stirred it in. Why make mashed potatoes even more unhealthy? Most people would not realize how much additional transfat had been stirred into those potatoes. Then he would pour more gelatinous gravy over the turkey chunks when he wasn't messing with the potatoes. Corn was provided as the vegetable. - more starch! My plate looked like a prison dinner. I gave up and went to get a piece of cake, hoping to raise my spirits. I get back and touched my fork to it, and it bounced right back! The cake was so dry it was hard and brittle! It had to have been cut for Easter dinner the previous day and just kept out, it was that dry! My companion gave her plate back to the server, saying she could not eat it. I thought you have chefs to supervise the buffet - I think a good home cook could do a much better job. I hate to pile on, but the meal was just plain insulting it was so bad! I would have been embarrassed to offer that to paying customers if I were the chef/manager.
One other aside. Jumer's Casino did a remodel of their casino buffet in about 2-3 days and accomplished the same things - new vinyl, new carpet - in that time frame. So far I am completely underwhelmed at the look of the remodeled buffet after all this very lengthy remodeling. Everything is just gray and more gray! I will reserve judgment until it is all done but what I can see so far it may not be worth the time and expense. I would trade it all for looser machines and better food!
